In Budapest mass protests because of the ban on the LGBT-Press

The residents of Budapest took to the streets, protesting the law B that prohibits the holding of the LGBTK+ Community Pride.

Details: As it is noted, the protesters gathered on the Kosshut Square, expressing dissatisfaction with the decisions of the authorities that violate the fundamental rights of citizens.

According to the scene, the participants of the action chanted the slogan “Orban away”, “fascist dictator” and “fundamental right to assembly”.

Some of them brought smoke candles, and their movement was blocked by police on the approach to Janos Marie Square. Law enforcement officers were lined up in a row and refused to pass protesters to the bridge.

Protesters promise to continue the fight and go outside again, demanding from the government the abolition of restrictions on freedom of gathering and supporting the rights of LGBTK+ community.

On March 17, the Hungarian Party “Fidesz” filed a bill in the parliament, which prohibits the holding of the Pride LGBTK+ communities and imposes fines on the organizers and participants of the event.

The next day, 136 votes were adopted in Hungary in Hungary.

Recall:

  • In 2021, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban banned “homosexuality propaganda” among people under 18, despite the sharp criticism of human rights groups and the European Union.
  • The Venice Commission concluded that the Hungarian law prohibiting teaching in schools concerning homosexuality and transgenders violates international human rights standards.
