Hungary refuses to support the conclusions of the Euro Council on Ukraine, because of their strategic interests

Hungary refused to support the European Council’s findings on assistance to Ukraine, including the initiative of the head of European diplomacy, Kai Callas on military support, saying that it was “contrary to its strategic interests.”

Details: Boka stressed that part of the project of the Euro Council’s conclusions, which concerns Ukraine, does not correspond to the strategic vision of Hungary on European security.

“The part concerning Ukraine in several points is contrary to the strategic interests and strategic vision of Hungary on how to create a new European security architecture,” he added.

According to the Hungarian Minister, “Hungary cannot support the conclusions about Ukraine in its current form.”

“It is very unlikely that we will find a new consensus of 27 EU Member States for any text. I think that the scenario is likely to repeat March 6, when the conclusions will only be a mention of Ukraine’s discussion, and there will be another text supported by the overwhelming majority of EU Member States,” he said.

• Earlier, the sources of “Euro Pravda” reported that in the non-public negotiations on the text of the European Council’s conclusions on March 20-21, Hungary again demands that it be excluded from the mention of Ukraine’s support.
• The day before, the EU Callas Chief Diplomat has confirmed that the EU wants to provide military assistance to Ukraine for 40 billion euros – the corresponding project will be on the agenda of March 20 and its support should be reflected in the conclusions of the EU leaders summit.
• On March 6, Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban refused to sign the conclusions of the Extraordinary European Council on March 6 on the support of Ukraine, as a result, the text agreed 26 of the 27 countries of the European Union.
