When to start rolling potatoes
The first months or two in the spring, before flowering, the potatoes need to be wrapped, because the stems grow vertically. The formation of tubers begins when the plants begin to bloom. If the plants begin to die off, the potato rolling at this time will no longer benefit.
The easiest way to wrap is to stand on one side of a row of potatoes and rake or hoe drag the soil to the bud on the opposite side of the line. Change the sides and drag the ground from the place you stood before.
Wrap the plants when they reach approximately 15-20 cm in height. The purpose of the rolling is to cover the potato tubers when they begin to move out of the ground. Several conditions can affect the growth of your potato plants, such as whether you plant during the wet or dry year. You may have to wait a few weeks before it is time to wrap potatoes.

Potato rolling – when to use straw
Wait a few weeks after the first rolling. Potato tubers may continue to try to grow to the top. You should wait for the potato plants to grow by another 20-31 cm before they are wrapped again.
The use of straw for the second rolling will greatly facilitate the collection of potatoes: you do not have to dig deep to find the crop. So fill the area around the plants with a thick straw. You need the straw to be packed as tightly as possible, completely covering any open potato.
Sprinkle the straw with earth. In fact, any soil is suitable, everything you need to do is fill any holes in a straw bed. This will help protect the potatoes from the sun.
