Macron condemned “more candid attempts by Russia” to destabilize the situation in Moldova

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned “more candid attempts by Russia to destabilize” Moldova and her “democratic institutions”. He said this at the Elysee Palace on March 10, during a joint presenter with Moldovan colleague Maya Sandu.

“Moldova, whose airspace is regularly violated by Russian drones and missiles, is also forced to resist more open attempts by Russia to destabilize a situation aimed at, in particular, to your country’s democratic institutions,” Macron said.

He added that France will help Moldova resist this intervention.

“We decided to strengthen our cooperation even more to increase Moldova’s resilience to foreign intervention,” Macron said.

On February 13, Moldova President, May Sandu, reported that during the attack of Russian drones on the Ukrainian Odessa region, two drones flew into the territory of Moldova and, as claimed, exploded there. There were no victims. After that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova reported that the country would stop the activities of the Russian Center for Science and Culture (“Russian House”), noting that the decision was made in connection with the violation of the country’s airspace by Russian strike drones.

In addition, Moldova reduced the number of Russian diplomats in Chisinau because of fears about espionage. Russia rejects accusations and continues to support the separatist region of Transnistria, which houses about 1,500 Russian military.
