In the summer of 2024, Gennady Popenko during training in the Zaporizhzhya direction suffered a complex knee injury. He has already undergone surgery, undergoes rehab and continues to work on television.

According to Popenko, it is more difficult to find use in acting if there are physical disabilities. This was another motivation to work on the consequences of injury.
Gennady Popenko is a medical commission, which will determine his suitability for military service.
“There are good suggestions in the army where you are waiting for you and where, even with such a foot, you would be very helpful. And during martial law it is difficult to be in the army. Morally, again. By the way, one of the army proposals is the service in the Tax Code. Where are I who was in the army but now have physical restraints can continue their service. And, honestly, I think about this option, ”the presenter says.
He, together with his wife and two daughters, lives in Ivanko, where he was occupied at the beginning of a full -scale invasion. Despite the experience, they decided to live here because it is so comfortable for children.
“They went to school and kindergarten and stated that they like more here than in Kiev. Whatever I like the capital, but the emotional state of children is more important. Children grow in difficult conditions. Bogdan’s eldest daughter tries to abstract, and the younger, Svyatoslav, instead focuses on hatred of the enemy. On her fifth birthday, she was desirable, she asked the Muscovites to disappear. This is abnormal for children in peaceful countries, but we cannot distinguish them from reality, ”Gennady explains.
His wife works at a volunteer center where he makes camouflage nets. These nets then pass the unit where the actor serves.
“The fighters joke: they are used to the drone they do not see their technique, but when they walk on landing and cannot find a car – it is difficult to get used to it. It is not easy for his wife to pull this case, and she is incredibly glad when helping, ”Gennady adds.
