The US has suspended Ukraine’s access to Maxar’s commercial satellite images

The Trump administration has suspended Ukraine’s access to commercial satellite images purchased by the US government through Maxar.

Details: Ukraine has long been using Maxar satellite images to track the movement of Russian troops, assessments and assistance in planning military operations.

Suspension of access to the images made by Maxar’s satellites and which is built by the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, follows the decision of Trump’s administration to suspend the exchange of intelligence with Ukraine.

“Maxar has contracts with the US Government and dozens of adolescents and partners around the world to provide satellite images and other geospatial data. Each client decides on how he or she will use and share this data,” said Maxar.

“We are very serious about our contractual obligations. We do not make any changes in how we support our other customers, their programs or contracts,” the company added.

The National Geospatial Intelligence Agency has stated that it has temporarily suspended access to a system that provides commercial satellite images acquired by the United States, in accordance with the Directive of the Presidential Administration for support of Ukraine.

On Friday, CNN reported that the United States continues to share with Ukraine intelligence data that can help its troops protect themselves, but “reduced” the exchange of intelligence that the Armed Forces could use for attacks on Russian invaders.

Commenting on the cessation of supplies of assistance to Ukraine, President Donald Trump said he “wants to stop death.”
