“I am glad that during the Polish presidency in the EU Council, which dealing with security issues, it was possible to make such significant progress in the control and protection of our external borders. The decision is, on the one hand, flexible and, on the other, guarantees the safety of migration movements,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Polish administration.
The approved document does not mention the clear date of starting the mandatory collection of biometric data of travelers at the EU borders, however, the sources in Brussels claim that it should be autumn, or more precisely October 2025.
Responding to the correspondent of the correspondent of “European Truth”, the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner did not confirm data on the start of Entry/Exit System in October, or at least in the fall, but did not refute them.
“October is also autumn, not spring,” he joked.
“It is better not to talk about specific dates. But I can say that we have to make sure that we will not have any delays … We need to be fast, because it is important for us to know, thanks to the specified system, who is currently in the European Union, for what purpose, for what time and where it is important, and that is what we work on.”
In turn, Tomas Simonyak, answering the question of the correspondent of “European Truth” on the consequences of the introduction of the entry-exit system on the Polish-Ukrainian border, said that “in contact with Ukrainian partners”.
“The situation on the Polish-Ukrainian border is as follows: the number of people trying to cross the border in both directions is about the same. Therefore, we do not predict any serious specific problems, both technical and clear management on the external border of the European Union,” the Polish minister said.
“The time horizon, which was mentioned by the commission, is sufficient for us to explain to all our Ukrainian partners. I do not expect it to be a critical moment,” Tomas Simonyak assured.
It is worth noting that after approval by the EU Council, the Entry/Exit System Regulation should be submitted for discussion and vote in the European Parliament.
Recall that in December 2024, the European Commission offered the member states the gradual implementation of Entry/Exit System (EES)-a new digital border system-during the six-month period.
The EES system had to work in the European Union since November 10, 2024, but because of the denial of a number of Member States, it was postponed.
