The main purpose of the presence of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine is to contain Russian aggression. The Ukrainian side hopes that foreign companies that invest in the country will lobby their governments to protect Ukrainian businesses against possible attacks by Russia. This mechanism is called soft guarantees.
In addition, the possible coins in the negotiations mention minerals in the occupied territories.
Also, one of the soft guarantees is the acceleration of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Ursula von der Liaen, the head of the European Commission, said earlier that Ukraine could become part of the EU even until 2030. One of the EU representatives added that changes in the entry procedure can help reduce the veto and accelerate decision making.
In addition, Ukraine is also focused on strict security guarantees, in particular due to strengthening its own armed forces, joining NATO and location of European peacekeepers in the country. It is suggested that peacekeepers protect important infrastructure instead of watching the front line.
