The British Defense Ministry noted that the loss of Russian personnel, which amounted to more than 860,000 killed and wounded, undermined the quality of the Russian Armed Forces.

“Most of the servicemen who are currently in the Russian Armed Forces have undergone minimal training, and Russian commanders use basic tactics to succeed, despite this related high losses,” they said in intelligence.

It is reported that Russia has lost at least 3750 major combat tanks and 8400 armored vehicles. Large reserves of tanks and armored vehicles inherited from the Soviet Union were the only means by which Russia was able to replenish these significant losses.

“Despite the costs imposed on its land troops, Russian troops are able to put constant pressure on Ukrainian defense. The Russian territorial promotion in Ukraine was accelerated in 2024, although it slowed down at the beginning of 2025. The continuation of attacks is supported by the tolerance of the Russian leadership to losses and a quantitative advantage of Russian Land Forces over the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ”the department summarized.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Russia lost about 868 230 of its military during a full -scale invasion of Ukraine.

Russia does not officially provide data on its loss. Moscow last called the number of killed in September 2022 – then declared 5937 dead. Western sources estimate the number of Russian dead and wounded in more than 600,000 people, not taking into account the losses of North Korean soldiers who participated in the battles.
