The idea of extraction of useful minerals, which Zelensky’s office is interested in Donald Trump is now turning against Ukraine. The refusal to sign an agreement on the USA threatens the loss of an important dialogue with Washington. Will Kyiv handle?
On February 12, Kyiv received a project on a partnership agreement concerning the Ukrainian subsoil from the American side. The document provided for investment in Ukrainian minerals in exchange for further assistance of the United States, but at the same time significantly limited Ukraine’s sovereignty. US Finance Minister Scott Bessent brought him to sign Zelensky, but the Ukrainian president refused to sign the document without clear security guarantees. Kyiv’s repeated refusal at the Munich Conference has caused dissatisfaction with Donald Trump, who has repeatedly criticized Zelensky.
