Former head of the Operator of the Gas Transport System of Ukraine Sergey Makakon criticized Naftogaz for inefficient gas procurement.
According to him, the company could buy fuel in the summer much cheaper, but instead it was forced to spend billions of hryvnias on more expensive purchases in winter.
He noted that gas reserves in underground storage facilities are now at the historic minimum, which creates risks to the stable passing of the heating season. In the case of severe frosts and possible infrastructure attacks, additional measures may be required.
At the same time, he said, no gas offs are planned for the population, although the industry may face restrictions. Makogon stressed that the situation will not become catastrophic, but will lead to considerable financial costs.
Earlier, we wrote that Alexey Kucherenko, the first deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and HCP, said that Naftogaz gas policy is opaque and raises more and more questions.
It should also be reminded that the Provisional Investigation Commission of the Verkhovna Rada on Pricing in Energy will appeal to the State Audit Service of Ukraine to check the company “Naftogaz”. The cause was insufficient gas reserves in storage.
