The US and Russia special representative Kit Kelloggus said that discussing the conditions for establishing peace will be conducted in two separate areas – with Russian and Ukrainian sides.
On Monday in Brussels Kellogg, the actions of US Presidential Administration Donald Trump explained to journalists who are working on finding a peaceful conflict resolution, Interfax-Ukraine writes.
He noted that US Special Representative Steve Witcoff is working with the Russian side, who will meet with Russian representatives in Saudi Arabia in the coming days. Kellog himself will visit Kiev at this time to start discussing with the Ukrainian side.
“Then we will return, share information and evaluate the current situation. We now determine the conditions for further steps. We know that Putin will be the main participant in Russia, and President Zelensky will be from Ukraine. The mediator in this process will be President Trump, ”Kellog said.
When asked about possible US support in the event of a European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, Kellog said that all options remain on the table. “This is a wonderful question. I always emphasized that none of the options would be excluded. You do not want to be in a situation where certain opportunities have already been lost, ”he said.
Kellogo also stressed that security guarantees will be key in future discussions. “These discussions will take place, and their results will determine what the final peace process will look like. Now we are just forming a plan. We do not know what will be the results of the negotiations or what answers we will receive, ”he added.
Concerning US Defense Minister Pitt Hegset’s statements about the lack of US participation in the future peacekeeping mission, Kellogo recalled the article of Vice President Jay Vens in Wall Street Journal, which stated that all options remain under consideration.
Kellogo also commented on the allies’ concern about insufficient negotiation information. He noted that during the Munich Security Conference, more than 30 bilateral meetings with partners were held. “We discussed their fears, thoughts and major problems. This dialogue is part of the process, which is why I am here – to find ways to solve these issues, ”the special representative summed up.
He also added that a similar approach is used in relations with the European Union.
