Analysts, on the example of Viktor Medvedchuk’s article, came to the Kremlin’s conclusion against Raubs with Ukraine and the West.
Medvedchuk posted a support map depicting the entire Ukrainian territory east of Lviv, Ternopil and Chernivtsi regions as part of “historical Russia”. Medvedchuk argued that the support of the West of Ukraine is aimed solely to destroy Russia from the inside and called Ukrainians “modern barbarians”, which Russia should save by integration into the Russian state
According to ISW, Medvedchuk also insists that modern Ukraine has no historical legitimacy, and its independence is a “mistake of history”.
The Institute of War Study emphasizes that such statements of Medvedchuk are a reflection of the Kremlin’s strategic policy on the denial of Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Medvedchuk’s rhetoric as a representative of the Russian elite, closely related to Putin, testifies to the Kremlin’s systemic reluctance to negotiate with Ukraine and the West and its principled refusal to recognize the legitimacy of the Ukrainian state and the government
