Russian President Volodymyr Putin has submitted to the State Duma a bill on ratification of an agreement with Belarus on security guarantees within the Union State. The corresponding document has already appeared on the official website of the Russian Parliament.
According to the agreement, Minsk allows the deployment of Russian military bases and units in its territory. At the same time, the contract is at least 10 years, and it cannot be canceled earlier than this period.
The document was signed on December 6, 2024 in Minsk during a meeting of the Higher State Council with the participation of Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin. After that, a representative of the organization of the former Belarusian security forces Belpol Matthew Kuprechik at hearings at the Helsinki Commission of the United States warned that the agreement would allow Moscow to increase military presence in Belarus.
