Meant a “absolutely theoretical hypothesis”: Georgescu explained his words about the division of Ukraine

Former Romanian Presidential candidate, Cellene Georgescu stated that when he spoke of the division of Ukraine, he referred to a “absolutely theoretical hypothesis”. In an interview with the Romanian TV channel, on February 2, he added that politicians who criticized him for his statements were “superficial and functionally illiterate”, Romanian media reports.

“First, it is a political class, if you can say so, very hypocritical and double standards … I am surprised that they are so near and functionally illiterate, although I spoke of a very simple thing, by the way. We need to learn from our historical experience. The world is changing, ”said Cellene Georgesska.

The former Presidential candidate added: “We, at the time, I mean at least the Second World War, made many mistakes, we did not know how to navigate. And the great Romania turned into small Romania. This is a reality … for us, and how I presented it, in a completely theoretical hypothesis, it is not good to make mistakes, because there are historical landmarks that cannot be obtained. It’s natural. ”

On the eve of the former Romanian Presidential candidate, Cellene Georgescu during a public discussion stated that he considers the “inevitable” division of Ukraine, calling it a “fictional state.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine criticized the statement of the Romanian politician. The spokesman of the Office George Tykhy called George’s words with a manifestation of “extreme disrespect” to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

According to Tykhoi, Kyiv condemns any actions and statements that encroach on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as contradict international norms, the UN Charter and “basic democratic values”.

“Against the backdrop of such statements, the attempts of Kalin Dzherdzhzka look absurd to position himself as an” independent “policy: he has been fully identical with the abstracts of Russian propaganda, which indicates full dependence on the owners in Moscow,” he said.

The little -known previously independent candidate Cellene Georgescu won in the first round of vote in the election on November 24, gaining about 23 percent of the vote. In the second round of the election on December 8, he had to meet with the pro -European centerist Elena Lascon.

However, after the Romanian National Security Council has declassified documents that indicate possible interference with unnamed “state entity” (probably referred to Russia), the Constitutional Court abolished the first tour of voting and ordered new elections to be held in the next few months.

Georgescu tried to challenge the decision, but the court rejected his appeal.

The first place of the far -right candidate in the first round of the presidential election caused fears and protests, especially among young Romanians, regarding the future democracy in the country.
