AP: Trump says the US had “very serious” discussions with Russia on war against Ukraine

The President of the United States Donald Trump said on January 31 that his administration had already conducted “very serious” discussions with Russia on the war against Ukraine. He told reporters in the oval office, reports AP.

Trump suggested that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin could soon take “significant” measures to end the war.

“We will talk, and I think we may do something significant. We want to put an end to this war. This war would not begin if I was president, ”he said.

Trump did not say who from his administration in contact with the Russians, but emphasized that both parties were “already communicating.”

When asked if he communicated directly with Putin, Trump replied restrained that he “did not want to answer”.

Trump repeatedly stated that he would not allow a full -scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine if he was in office. At the same time, he was president from 2016 to 2020, when Russian aggression lasted in eastern Ukraine.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Russia’s war against Ukraine would not end with the achievement of “maximalist goals” of the parties, and repeated that both of them would have to make concessions on possible future negotiations.

During the election campaign, Donald Trump stated that it could cease the Russian Federation in Ukraine within 24 hours of joining the post. However, at a press conference on January 7, he said he hopes to complete the fighting for six months.

On January 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council that Russia was open to dialogue with the new administration of US President Donald Trump on Ukraine. Putin also congratulated Donald Trump on the post of US President and stated that Russia was hoping to build a dialogue with states on the basis of mutual respect.

According to the American Institute of War Study, Putin repeated on January 20 that the Kremlin was ready to negotiate with the United States on the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, but made it clear that it retains its requirements for the full surrender of Ukraine.
