The Czech Republic is now studying possible ways to finance a new initiative.
“We know that the war will continue and we will still need ammunition in 2025. I cannot name a specific figure under the new initiative this year because I do not want to set ourselves. We must give Ukraine what it needs it “, – he said.
Lipavsky added that the Czech Republic is currently studying possible ways of financing a new initiative, “and then see how many cartridges we can get for that money.”
Answering the question of how long it will take to deliver ammunition to Ukraine, Lipavsky noted that it depends “primarily on political will and funding.”
“It is impossible in general to say how long it will take to make ammunition finally arrive in Ukraine. It depends on the origin and technical condition of the ammunition. Sometimes they still need to be adapted, repaired or in general improved so that they can be used reliably in Ukraine,” he said.
The Foreign Minister stressed that in the world there are still enough ammunition that could be purchased:
“This is a matter of political will, and if many EU Member States join our initiative again, we will be able to achieve a lot for Ukraine.”
He also noted that last year the Czech Republic fulfilled the stated goal – to set Ukraine 1.5 million units of ammunition, a third of which – a caliber 155 mm. “This has played an important role in establishing parity on the battlefield in Ukraine,” Lipavsky said.
