NABU began criminal proceedings against Umerov – media

The National Anti -Corruption Bureau has initiated criminal proceedings against possible abuse of power or office by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov through his refusal to continue his contract with the head of the Defense Procurement Agency Marina Bezruk and withdrawing two members of the Supervisory Board of the Agency and Yuriya. This is stated in the NABU’s response to the official request of Radio Liberty, reports UNN.

The proceedings were opened at the request of the Corruption Center, the department reported.

“According to the results of consideration of the application, a decision was made in accordance with Article 214 of the CPC of Ukraine on the entry of information in the Unified Register NABU’s official answer.

Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine provides that abuse of power or office, if it has caused grave consequences, is punishable for officials of imprisonment for a term of three to six years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years , with a fine of five hundred to one thousand non -taxable minimum incomes of citizens.

At the same time, NABU reminds of the presumption of innocence of Umerov.

“Pursuant to part one of Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered to be innocent in the commission of a crime and cannot be criminal punishment until his guilt is proved legally and established by a court conviction,” the letter stated.

Umerov, in the end of last week, contrary to the decision of the Supervisory Board, refused to continue the contract with the head of the defense procurement agency Marina Bezrukova, as well as withdrew from the Supervisory Board of the agency of two representatives of the state – Taras Chmut and Yuri Dzhigir – who voted for the continuation of the contract.
