Russia’s youth football team was not allowed to participate in the selection tournament of the European Championship in 2027, which will be held in Serbia and Albania, reports Sports.ru portal. Because of this, the Russians will not participate in the Olympic Games football tournament in 2028 in Los Angeles, as its participants from the European continent should decide on the results of youth Euro-2027.

According to the rules of the Olympiad, the football tournament is involved in national teams, which are almost completely composed of players whose age does not exceed 21 years.

Russian athletes have removed from most international competitions in response to a full -scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine. Football teams and clubs also came under sanctions. The Russians in neutral status are allowed to participate in individual sports competitions, in particular at the Olympiads, provided that they were not supported in support of war and not related to the army.

As a result of the war and sanctions, more than 200 Russian athletes have changed or intended to change sports citizenship to be able to perform in international competitions. Among them, both beginner athletes and are known all over the world, for example, the winner of the world chamber of chess champs Alexander Kosteniuk now stands for Switzerland.
