Details: According to Siyarto, “the European Commission has undertaken to protect gas and oil pipelines leading to the European Union Member States.”

“They have clearly made it clear that the integrity of the EU Member States supplies is a security issue for the entire EU. The European Commission also seeks to receive from Ukraine the guarantees of storage of oil supplies to the EU,” the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.

These “liabilities” were not publicly voiced publicly, but according to media information, Hungary demanded that the EU press on Ukraine to preserve the transit of Russian oil and conduct a dialogue on gas transit in exchange for its consent to support the continuation of economic sanctions against the Russian Federation.

The EU’s main diplomat, Kai Callas, said it was a “energy solidarity with countries without access to the sea,” emphasizing that the EU’s assurances were satisfied.

The decision to continue sanctions against Russia reached a meeting of the EU foreign ministers on Monday, January 27.
