The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called the presidential “elections” in Belarus the political show

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called the presidential “elections” in Belarus a political show. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine does not recognize the legitimacy of the elections in Belarus, where Lukashenko received 86.82% of the vote. The ministry joined the EU’s assessment, calling the election a farce due to the lack of real competition and political repression.”, — write on: unn.ua

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is difficult to call the “presidential elections” in Belarus fair, transparent and democratic and added that the elections themselves turned into a one-man political show and cannot be legitimate. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs UNN.

On January 26, 2025, the so-called “presidential elections” were held in Belarus, the result of which was known in advance from the beginning of the election campaign. It is difficult to call such elections fair, transparent and democratic, in particular, given the political repressions in Belarus, which deprived voters of any alternative choice, and turned the elections themselves into a one-man political show

The agency stressed that elections that take place under conditions of full administrative control and political persecution, the absence of real political competition, suppression of freedom of speech, and the absence of non-government-controlled mass media cannot be legitimate.

This is a farce. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine fully shares and joins the assessments of the EU External Relations Service regarding the results of this “action” and expresses its support to those Belarusians who continue to fight for democratic changes in their country, its independence, and the preservation of their national dignity and identity. The Belarusian people deserve a better future than being held hostage by one person for another five years, who not only deprives Belarusians of the prospects of decent development in the family of European nations, to which they historically belong, but also creates security threats for neighboring countries and the European region in as a whole

The Central Election Commission announced the preliminary results of the so-called presidential elections of Belarus. It is indicated that 86.82% of voters voted for Alexander Lukashenko.

The elections were held against the background of prolonged international criticism of Lukashenka’s regime and internal tensions in society.

The head of the diplomatic service of the European Union, Kaya Callas, emphasized that such elections are a direct violation of democratic principles. Lukashenko, according to her, is only consolidating his stay in power, which has long since lost international trust.

Belarusian dictator Oleksandr Lukashenko stated that he does not care whether the West recognizes the results of the elections in Belarus.
