Earlier, on January 20, US President Donald Trump signed a decree on a temporary pause to providing US external assistance to other countries for 90 days to evaluate the efficiency and consistency of relevant programs with US foreign policy.
Subsequently, the Pentagon specified that the decree did not affect the programs of armed assistance to Ukraine.
On January 24, the US State Department has ordered the freezing new funding for almost all US external assistance programs as part of President Trump’s desire to “bring these programs in line with its foreign policy purposes.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent a message to the US Embassy around the world, which explains the implementation of the decree signed by Trump on January 20, which states that “no further foreign assistance of the United States should be provided in such a way that does not fully correspond to foreign policy President of the United States. ”
Trump’s decree states that the current US foreign aid “does not meet US interests and in many cases contradicts US values.”
Trump’s decree calls on 90-day pause in providing foreign non-military assistance to “develop efficiency assessment” and “consistency with the United States Foreign Policy”.
