He also noted that on Friday, January 24, the specialized committee of the parliament is expected to consider the draft law and include it in the main agenda of the legislative body.

On January 9, the Armenian government approved the draft law on the start of the process of accession to the European Union.

After that, the draft law was to be sent to the parliament. The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, noted that the decision on the country’s accession to the EU can only be made based on the results of a national referendum.

On March 8, 2024, Mirzoyan announced that his country was considering applying for membership in the European Union due to tensions with Russia.

The European Parliament reported that the EU is ready for a “transformation of relations” with Armenia if the country wants to obtain candidate status.

On September 9, the European Union began negotiations on the liberalization of the visa regime with Armenia.
