Gas prices in Russia do not cover the needs of “Gazprom” for the implementation of investment projects, stated the head of the strategic block of “Gazprom” Alexey Sakharov at the meeting of the expert council at the State Duma. The Moscow Times writes about it. According to Sakharov, the price of gas for consumers should increase so that Gazprom can carry out gasification of regions and finance the necessary capital investments for the development of gas infrastructure. Sakharov noted that the current level of prices does not provide the necessary financing for this and may affect the reliability of gas supply in the long term. The current rate, frozen since 2015 (62.5 rubles per 100 km per 1,000 cubic meters), does not cover Gazprom’s costs, which amount to 109 rubles, while the required price is 170 rubles. After the start of the war in Ukraine, the Russian government already raised gas tariffs for the population. Last year, the price increased by 11.2%, and in 2022 – by 3% in the summer and by 8.5% in December. In 2025, another increase of 10.2% is planned, which will increase the total increase in the price of gas by 37% since the beginning of the war. Tariffs for enterprises and housing and communal services will increase by 21.3%. It is noted that this will provide an additional 33 billion rubles of income for Gazprom.
