Water from overflowing rivers hit nine villages in Indonesia’s Central Java province, and landslides hit mountain villages after downpours.
A representative of the National Disaster Management Agency, Abdul Muhari, said that the flood caused a landslide on Monday, which “buried” two houses and a cafe in the resort area of Petungkriyono.
The element destroyed 25 houses, a dam and three main bridges connecting the city of Pekalongan. At least 21 people were killed, 13 were injured and nearly 300 were forced to flee to temporary government shelters.
Dozens of rescuers found three bodies, including one of a five-month-old baby, during a search in the Petungkriyono district, where tons of dirt and rocks buried two houses and a cafe.
Another body was pulled from under a damaged bridge near the river in Kasimpar village. Rescuers are still looking for five missing people.
