On January 23, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are conducting more than a thousand simultaneous searches across the country in order to stop the illegal sale of weapons and ammunition, the National Police reports.

“More than 1,000 simultaneous searches are conducted by operatives of the DKR, DSR, National Police investigators together with prosecutors’ offices. The main goal is to block sales and storage channels, as well as to remove trophy weapons, ammunition and explosives from illegal circulation,” the message reads.

Organizers and participants of these channels may face up to seven years in prison, say the police.

The details of the special operation there are promised to be made public after the completion of all investigative actions.

On January 20, the National Police announced that, together with the SBU, they had exposed a group of arms dealers who illegally sold weapons and explosives to criminals. According to the report, the group operated on the territory of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, however, the perpetrators tried to organize the sale of firearms and ammunition throughout Ukraine.
