Literally: “On the instructions of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, successfully evacuated three Ukrainian sailors, members of the crew of the cargo ship Galaxy Leader, who were held captive by the Yemeni Houthis.”
Details: The GUR clarified that the operation was successfully carried out with the “full support and assistance of the Royal Office of the Sultanate of Oman.”
The scouts noted that the sailors are returning to their families and will be rehabilitated later.
It is reported that the operation to release the Ukrainians lasted more than a year, “unofficial negotiations” were held with the Yemeni Houthis and “parties concerned with the situation around the detained cargo ship.”
As the scouts emphasized, for the first time they established contact with the captured sailors on April 3, 2024.
