Literally: “The President has the authority under the Immigration and Nationality Act to prevent the physical entry of illegal aliens into the United States through the southern border.”
Details: According to the report, some states, including Texas, asked the federal government for protection against the invasion of migrants during the Biden administration, but “he failed to protect them from the millions of illegal aliens entering the United States.”
Under the new executive order, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice and the State Department are directed to take all necessary steps to immediately deport illegal migrants who have crossed the southern border.
The decree also limited access to provisions of immigration law that would allow illegal migrants to remain in the United States. In particular, restrictions apply to the ability to apply for asylum.
The move is in line with Trump’s campaign promise to “close the border on day one” of his new term.
What preceded:
- Earlier Wednesday, it was announced that thousands of additional active-duty U.S. military personnel were being deployed to the southern U.S. border with Mexico, just two days after Trump ordered the border to be strengthened.
- According to CNN, it is currently unknown whether the troops will be armed. However, it is known that none of the military personnel are authorized to perform any law enforcement functions, such as making arrests, seizing drugs or interacting with migrants. They can only help transport them to migration centers.
