The BBC, with reference to Western officials, writes that by mid-January, North Korean troops in the Kursk region had lost about four thousand people killed and wounded, of which about a thousand were killed.

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service previously claimed that at least 300 North Korean soldiers were killed in the war with Ukraine. Another 2,700 North Korean soldiers were wounded, according to intelligence.

Ukraine and South Korea claimed that the DPRK sent more than 10,000 military personnel to Russia.

On January 12, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Kyiv is ready to hand over captured North Korean soldiers to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un if he arranges their exchange for Ukrainian soldiers who are in Russian captivity.
