The European Commission will present a plan to reduce energy prices in the EU

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that she plans to present a plan to lower energy prices in the European Union next month.

She stated this on Wednesday, according to “European Truth”, as quoted by the DPA agency.

Von der Leyen said affordable energy prices are a priority and measures to achieve this goal will be unveiled next month.

“Energy prices in Europe are still structurally higher than in the United States and China, and they vary significantly within the European Union,” von der Leyen said.

“We have to lower them while we complete the phase-out of Russian fossil fuels,” she added.

Diversification of energy suppliers and investment in “next-generation clean energy technologies” are key to lowering prices in the EU, she said, citing fusion, advanced geothermal and solid-state batteries as examples.

Geothermal energy uses heat from deep layers of rock to produce energy. In fusion, unlike conventional nuclear power plant reactors, atomic nuclei are fused at extreme temperatures, rather than split apart.

Von der Leyen said she plans to present an affordable energy plan in February.

The European Commission considers relatively high energy prices in the EU to be one of the main obstacles to the revival of the economy and competitiveness of the European Union.

As previously reported, the European Commission did not record sharp price jumps for gas in the European Union after Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas to the territory of the EU.

As you know, Ukraine since January 1 stopped the transit of Russian gas, which continued to be received by several EU states and unrecognized Transnistria.
