In the case of opening the border for all categories of the population, 20.7% of Ukrainians would like to move to another country for permanent residence. Instead, the majority (70.0%) would like to stay in the country.

This is stated in the survey results of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center.

9.3% of respondents were undecided.

The share of those who would like to leave Ukraine is higher among men (25%) than among women (17%).

“This can be understood, since the borders were not closed for women and all those who wanted to, they have already left,” said Polina Bondarenko, analyst of the “Democratic Initiatives” foundation.

According to the survey, among young people (18-29 years old) 33% of respondents want to leave Ukraine, among people over 60 years old – only 9%.

Among the reasons for wanting to leave Ukraine, the following were most often mentioned:

  • Lack of opportunities for development – 30.5%,
  • Threat to health and life as a result of hostilities – 28.6%,
  • Insufficient social support from the state – 28.6%,
  • To reunite with relatives who have already left – 26.2%,

The survey was conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the Razumkov Center in the period from November 29 to December 14, 2024, in the territories controlled by the government of Ukraine and where hostilities are not taking place. 1,518 respondents over the age of 18 were interviewed by the face-to-face method. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.6%.

Also, during 2024, the trust of Ukrainians in the president, the government and the Verkhovna Rada fell. At the same time, the support of the Armed Forces remains at the level of more than 90%.

Another poll showed that in December 2024, 52% of Ukrainians trusted President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, 39% did not. The remaining 9% answered that they could not decide on their attitude.

Recently, the Rakuten Viber team found out whether Ukrainians would donate to the Armed Forces and their friends who are serving. 63% of respondents continue to donate in 2024, another 27% helped in other ways — the same figures were at the end of 2023. More than half of Ukrainians learn about the fees from friends and acquaintances.

Support for European integration of Ukraine has also reached a record level, according to the latest survey.
