German Chancellor Olaf Scholz unexpectedly accused his political opponents of lying about the financing of aid to Ukraine. According to him, the German people are being deliberately misled by avoiding the discussion of the key issue – how to cover expenses, writes UNN with reference to Bild.

Details

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz proposed canceling the so-called “debt brake” and taking a loan to allocate three billion euros to help Ukraine.

However, CDU, VDP and even “Greens” – its coalition partners – preferred to finance additional arms deliveries to Ukraine at the expense of unplanned budget expenditures.

Now, in an interview with FAZ, Scholz suddenly accused his political opponents of lying: “I have the impression, I’ll say it right here: now the German people are being deceived with the greatest intensity and thoroughness.”

To a clarifying question, who exactly is deceiving the people, Scholz added: “All those who try to evade the main question: “How will we pay for it?”.

As the publication notes, we are probably talking about candidates for chancellors – Friedrich Mertz (CDU), Robert Habek (“Greens”) and Christian Lindner (VDP). Scholz’s accusations were also taken personally by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Berbock (“Greens”), who expressed indignation.

She emphasized that Scholz should not use the dispute over the financing of aid to Ukraine in his pre-election interests.

“I want to say in all seriousness that the times are too difficult and Germany’s responsibility is too great for us now, in the coming weeks, to immerse ourselves in pre-election rhetoric,” Burbock said.

The CDU noted that Scholz, judging by everything, had completely lost his temper, once he began to accuse everyone of lying. According to the latest INSA survey data, the CDU/CSU rating stands at 29%, while Olaf Scholz’s SPD has only 16% support.

We will remind

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reacted to the statement of CDU deputy Roderich Kiesewetter, who claims that Scholz planned to meet with Putin before the elections to the Bundestag.
