When asked whether he would introduce additional sanctions against Russia if Putin does not want to negotiate, Trump replied: “Sounds likely.” At the same time, he again stated that the war in Ukraine would not have started if he had remained in power in the United States.

According to Trump, he also asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help settle the situation in Ukraine. The US President clarified that he made such a request to the President of the People’s Republic of China during their telephone conversation on January 17.
