The President of Ukraine spoke about the security of Europe, noting that it is necessary to make sure that no European country depends on one supplier of energy resources – especially on Russia.
In this context, he mentioned the statements of the new US President Donald Trump, who is going to export more energy carriers.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that Europe “must step up and make more efforts in the long term” to ensure real energy independence.
“One cannot continue to buy gas from Moscow and at the same time expect guarantees of security, assistance and support from the Americans. It’s just not right. For example, the prime minister of Slovakia is not looking for access to American gas, but he does not lose hope of using the security umbrella of the United States,” Zelensky said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Robert Fico said he had secured gas supplies to Slovakia during a trip to Vladimir Putin in Moscow in late December before Ukraine cut gas transit.
Kyiv does not consider making concessions to Bratislava and agreeing to renew the transit agreement with Gazprom in order to reconcile with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico also discussed with the Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan the possibility of ensuring the supply of Russian gas through Turkey.
