“The court partially granted the request of the prosecution,”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
Thus, the court partially satisfied the request of the prosecution, which asked for his detention for a period of 60 days without determining the amount of bail. The defense requested personal commitment or house arrest.
Max Nazarov called this decision “unfair”, because he did not commit “any crime, especially the one he is accused of”. He said he would appeal the court’s decision.
“Never, never in my life, neither morally nor in any other way, did I betray Ukraine, nor my principles, nor the Constitution. During the full-scale invasion, he never left the territory of Ukraine, he worked for the good of Ukraine,” Nazarov said in court.
He also claims that the journalist is not responsible for what the guests said on the air.
In a comment to a Radio Liberty correspondent, Nazarov said that he had “no relation” to Yevhen Murayev, the former owner of “Nash” and NewsOne, but noted that out of “respect for the past” that connected him with him, he would not say anything.
The Security Service of Ukraine announced on January 18 that it had informed the former host of the Nash and NewsOne TV channels, which were owned by Viktor Medvedchuk and Yevgeny Murayev, about the suspicion. The special service raised a similar suspicion regarding the guest of the Youtube channel of the ex-host, who “in February 2024 already received a suspicion from SBU investigators.”
The SBU states that the suspicion is formulated according to parts 2 and 3 of Art. 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
According to the case materials, after the start of the full-scale war, the person involved created his channel on the video hosting YouTube, where he continued to spread the narratives of the Kremlin. The SBU says that for this purpose, the blogger regularly invited pro-Russian “polite experts” to his broadcasts, a large number of whom are currently hiding in the Russian Federation.
“During the interview, both the author himself and the guests of the studio repeatedly tried to justify Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, as well as the war crimes of the Russians, in particular, missile strikes on the civilian infrastructure of our country,” the message reads.
In February 2022, the NSDC decided to impose sanctions against the TV channel “Nash”, which is owned by Yevhen Murayev. The former People’s Deputy called the sanctions a “crime”.
