Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Iryna Mudra opened a two-day expert round table dedicated to the need for legislative changes for fair punishment for international crimes.

In particular, judges, prosecutors, investigators, lawyers, scientists, people’s deputies, as well as experts from international and Ukrainian non-governmental organizations paid special attention to the issues that need to be settled regarding the Rome Statute.

“Amendments to the system of investigation of international crimes require coordination with all participants in the process of restoring justice for Ukrainians. That is why it is extremely important to coordinate and formulate a single, joint approach to the development of these changes – taking into account world standards, as well as our unique experience and achievements,” Iryna Mudra emphasized.

Based on the results of the discussion, the participants decided to develop a comprehensive approach to the implementation of the Rome Statute. It is based on the priorities of the bodies of the Ukrainian criminal justice system and the need to ensure fair trial standards.
