Donald Trump, the 47th president elected by the US people, will be sworn in as the country’s leader on Monday, January 20, and from that moment the countdown to his second presidential term will begin. We will remind, previously Trump was the president of the USA from 2016 to 2020. Briefly about – about the inauguration ceremony of the new American president.

Everything is written down to the minuteUsually, the day of the inauguration of the President of the United States is a rather magnificent and loud event with its schedule and ceremonial, consisting of several parts: swearing-in ceremony, signing ceremony, inaugural dinner, review of entrance exams, procession and parade. Inaugural balls are held at various venues before and after all official ceremonies.

Drink a seagull – and on oathThe first item on the Inauguration Day schedule will be a service at St. John’s Church on Lafayette Square in Washington. Then, after a small tea party at the White House, Donald Trump will head to the Capitol to be sworn in.

It is known that Trump will swear in US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts on January 20, Monday, at noon Eastern time (19:00 Kyiv time) in the West Wing of the Capitol.

The oath has only 35 words: “I solemnly swear that I will faithfully perform the duties of the President of the United States and will do everything in my power to preserve, defend, and protect the Constitution of the United States.”

Vice President-elect JD Vance will do the same.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, President Joe Biden and the First Lady will leave the Capitol to begin their post-presidential lives.

The language is not that of a boy, but that of a presidentThen it will be time for the inaugural address. As Trump previously stated, it will be “inspiring and unifying.” If we recall his similar speech in January 2017, when he called his country “American slaughterhouse”, then yes – the speech of 2025 will be surprisingly different in spirit and style.

As The Guardian reports, Trump is expected to talk about several policy initiatives that he promised to implement immediately after taking office. This is the closing of the southern border, the launch of “the largest deportation operation in the history of the United States” (Trump’s quote), pardoning the participants of the January 6 rebellion, and other interesting things.

Took a job – and for lunchThen a short break: the president will go to the special room S-216 of the Capitol, where a traditional photo portrait will be taken and all transition documents will be signed. And then lunch: The president and vice president will attend the inaugural lunch with the leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as invited guests.

Everyone dances, and Trump dances three timesAfter lunch, the new US president and his team of senators will walk down Pennsylvania Avenue in a motorcade to the White House. They will be accompanied by military regiments, school bands and groups of citizens. A tribune has already been installed in the White House, from where officials will watch this parade until the end.

Washington will host at least 18 inauguration ceremonies, including balls, three of which are considered official and where the new American president plans to visit.

Late on January 20, Trump will appear at three inaugural balls across the city at the Commander-in-Chief Ball, the Liberty Inaugural Ball and the Starlight Ball. He is also expected to perform at all three events.

They will pray already on TuesdayThe inauguration day will end with the signing ceremony of the first presidential documents in the Oval Office. And the nationwide prayer on Tuesday will finally be the last protocol event of the entire inauguration and will complete the process of Donald Trump’s accession to the post of US president.

And how is the weather? However, the weather in Washington these days promises to be unpleasantly cold and windy, and almost all mass events will take place outdoors. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration is already predicted to be the coldest in 40 years. However, on the day of inaugurations, nature is often fussy. So, when Kennedy was sworn in, there was heavy snowfall, they even had to clean the street with flamethrowers, and on the day of Reagan’s inauguration, part of the street events were canceled altogether due to the frost.

By the way

The hit of the day is YMCA from the 80sThe selection of artists who will perform at Trump’s inauguration is interesting. Yes, country singer and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood will perform America the Beautiful during the ceremony. Country singer Lee Greenwood, a long-time friend and associate of Trump, and opera singer Christopher Macchio will perform.

But the highlight has to be the performance of the disco group The Village People at a rally in honor of Trump’s victory on Sunday and at one of the inauguration balls on Monday. Even those who have never heard of these artists know their 1978 hits – YMCA and Macho Man. During the election campaign, Trump often included songs from these bands at his rallies.

The YMCA song has earned the reputation of being the “unofficial gay anthem,” although neither the music nor the lyrics reflect this theme.

Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts, Gavin DeGraw will also perform at Trump’s Sunday rally and balls.

Where and when to watch? The broadcast of the inaugural events should begin on January 20 at 18:00 Kyiv time. It can be seen:

  • on ABC, CBS, CNN, CSPAN, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC and PBS, including on their websites and YouTube online,
  • on the White House website,
  • on the “Voice of America” website (a Ukrainian translation will be available).
