Literally The Washington Post: “President-elect Donald Trump returns to Washington in triumph: His lawsuits are behind him, corporate executives are flocking to Mar-a-Lago to meet him, his inaugural committee raised record amounts of money for Monday’s ceremony, and The Republican Party is now completely under his control.”

Details: Trump’s inaugural committee has raised more than $150 million since winning the election in November, according to a Republican familiar with the fundraising figures, according to the paper.

Those donations include $1 million from tech companies such as Microsoft, Google, Meta and Uber, as well as $1 million each from Boeing and Lockheed Martin, according to company statements.

Of the 40 individuals and companies that publicly reported donations to Trump’s inauguration, more than 60 percent did not donate to Trump’s 2017 inauguration, according to a Washington Post analysis.

Biden’s inaugural committee received 12 donations of at least $1 million from companies or individuals, while Trump’s 2017 inaugural committee received several dozen gifts of that size.

Trump’s first inaugural committee raised about $107 million, while Biden’s committee raised about $62 million in 2021. Biden’s inauguration also took place during the coronavirus pandemic, and his inaugural committee limited donations to $500,000 for individuals and $1 million for corporations.

The publication added that it is not unusual for corporations to donate to inaugural committees, but many campaign finance experts lament the unclear rules regarding them.

Prehistory:

  • Newly elected US President Donald Trump is preparing more than 100 executive orders, and plans to sign them starting from the first day of work in the White House.

  • President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration is expected to be moved indoors on Monday due to dangerously cold temperatures forecast for Washington.
  • Trump broke with tradition by inviting some foreign leaders to his inauguration, such as Italian Prime Minister George Maloney.
  • The far-right Eurosceptic Nigel Farage, who heads the Reform UK party, as well as Tino Hruppala, co-leader of the Alternative for Germany, also received an invitation from Britain.
