“Elina Svitolina commented on the victory over Jasmin Paolini in a flash interview”, — write: sport.ua
“Well, it was a crazy battle. I would like to say that I was inspired by my husband’s victory, but (laughs). I watched a bit of his match, of course, it was hard not to watch. But I played the first set so badly that I wasn’t sure, maybe I’ve already run out of strength (laughs). Then I really had to fight, I am very happy that I was able to return to the match. I was just trying to hit one more ball into that half of the court, find my shots, so I’m very happy with my performance in the end.
What was I saying to myself after such a first set? I just tried to fight. As I already said, the start of the match did not go well for me. To be honest, I didn’t feel well on the court… Today is my coach’s birthday. Therefore, I would not be very proud of myself if I ended this match like this with such a game. So I tried to show real fight, to stay on the court as long as possible, because the first game went to Jasmin so quickly. Yes, I was just struggling and trying to move as fast as possible. Will this victory be enough for the coach as a gift? Yes, it seems he is satisfied (laughs).
Where did I get this fighting character? I would say that it comes from all Ukrainians, we have this fighting spirit. I think that on many levels we show our resilience, we fight for what is ours and we really want to get it. That’s why we really have a fighting spirit in our blood and every day we try to do our best,” said Elina in a flash interview on the court.
Svitolina and Monfils won against the fourth ranked rackets in the world in one day. Gael took on Taylor Fritz and Elina won against Paolina.
Elina Svitolina spoke about where her resilience comes from after reaching Australian Open R16“It comes from all the Ukrainians.. In so many levels we show resilience. We are fighting for what is ours… Fighting spirit is in our blood.” 💙💛
