The State Bureau of Investigation informed on Saturday that it had reported the suspicion of the “curator” of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, a member of parliament of several convocations from the “Opposition Bloc”. As it became known UNN from own sources, it is about Vadym Novinskyi.

Employees of the SBU in cooperation with the SBU reported the suspicion to the “curator” of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, a member of parliament of several convocations from the banned pro-Russian party “Opposition Bloc”. He is suspected of treason and inciting religious enmity and hatred

As the investigation established, “from the very beginning of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as early as 2014, he promoted Russian narratives through interviews in mass media, public speeches, as well as in posts on his own website and in social networks.” “The MP tried to create anti-government and pro-Russian sentiments in Ukrainian society, to justify Russian aggression, etc.,” the bureau said.

“The pro-Russian deputy carried out the instructions of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill (Gundyaev), for a long time he maintained close communication with him and was in his hierarchical subordinate, that is, he was the so-called “curator” from the Russian Orthodox Church and, in fact, the representative of a religious organization of a foreign state in Ukraine “, – the SBI noted.

At the same time, as reported, “the elected official, acting in support of the foreign policy of the aggressor country, systematically made public speeches with signs of religious intolerance and enmity.”

“After the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian army into Ukraine, he resigned and is currently hiding abroad. However, he continues to exert informational influence aimed at harming the sovereignty of Ukraine, its state and information security, the achievement of military and political goals by the leadership of the Russian Federation in relation to the state of Ukraine, and the provision of assistance to the Russian Federation in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine in the information sphere,” the SBI said.

Complex forensic psychological and linguistic examinations assigned to the investigators reportedly “confirmed the facts of the people’s deputy’s criminal activity in the interests of the Russian Federation.”

“He was notified in absentia of the suspicion of treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and violation of the equality of citizens depending on their racial, national, regional affiliation and religious beliefs committed by an official (Part 2 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)” , – the SBI reported.

The maximum penalty for committing such actions is imprisonment for a term of up to fifteen years with or without confiscation of property.

The Prosecutor General’s Office and the SBU also informed the People’s Deputy about the announcement of suspicion.
