“The government has approved the framework for the return of the hostages. The framework for the release of the hostages will come into force on Sunday,” the statement said.
The agreement was ratified after more than six hours of meeting. The 33-member group of ministers approved the deal following a recommendation made earlier Friday by the security cabinet. In the government, 24 ministers voted “for”, 8 – “against”.
The ceasefire will take effect at 06:30 GMT on Sunday.
We will remind, on January 17, the office of the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, confirmed the signing of the agreement with Hamas on the ceasefire and the release of the hostages.
In the first phase of the agreement, hostages held by Hamas will be exchanged for prisoners and detainees held in Israeli prisons. 33 of the 98 Israeli hostages are to be released. In return, Israel will release more than 700 Palestinian prisoners, including 275 accused of killing Israelis, as well as 1,000 Palestinians detained during the war but not involved in the October 7 attacks.
Humanitarian aid will also be delivered to the Gaza Strip, including 600 trucks with humanitarian aid and 50 fuel tankers, as well as 200,000 tents and 60,000 mobile homes for displaced people.
On the 16th day of the armistice, the parties will begin negotiations on the second stage of the agreement. It provides for the release of the remaining hostages, a permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
