President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the leadership of the ministries of foreign affairs of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, Croatia and Montenegro, who came to Ukraine to participate in the first ministerial meeting in the format “Ukraine – Southeastern Europe” .
The head of state thanked the representatives of these countries for their assistance to Ukraine and support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“All the meetings we had in this format brought results, we began to understand each other better. Thanks to the countries that have already held summits, we have support in demining, humanitarian and military aid,” the President said.
The countries of Southeast Europe have made an important contribution to the protection of lives. Now it is necessary to strengthen cooperation in order to achieve a just peace for Ukraine and the entire region.
Representatives of the foreign policy departments of the countries of South-Eastern Europe expressed their constant support for Ukraine both at the bilateral level and within multilateral formats.
Strengthening of defense capabilities, development of human capital, humanitarian support, implementation of infrastructure projects, guarantee of global food security and mutual assistance on the way to the EU are issues in which the countries of Southeast Europe are interested in relations with Ukraine.
The “Ukraine – South-Eastern Europe” format was launched in 2022. In August of the same year, the first summit was held in Greece, the second in February 2024 in Albania, and the third in October in Croatia.
Today, this format has also worked at the ministerial level. The key issues of the meeting, which was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga, were the strengthening of regional cooperation, support of Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression, and joint progress on the path to the EU. Based on its results, the participants adopted a joint communique.
