Donald Trump’s candidate for the head of the Ministry of Finance, Scott Bessent, said that he would “100%” support the strengthening of sanctions against Russia in order to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. He said this while speaking at a hearing on the approval of his candidacy before the Senate Committee on Finance, writes CNBC. “If any officials in the Russian Federation are watching this hearing on my nomination, they should know that if I am confirmed, and if President Trump asks as part of his strategy to end the war in Ukraine, I will 100% support increased sanctions” – stated Bessent. He noted that his statement especially concerns the oil giants of the Russian Federation. Sanctions will be strengthened, he said, to a level that will force Russia to sit down at the negotiating table.Advertisement: Bessent added that he believes that the sanctions against the Russian Federation were not tough enough under the former administration of the US president. We will remind: The advisers of the newly elected President Donald Trump are developing a large-scale sanctions strategy in order to facilitate the achievement of a diplomatic agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the coming months and at the same time put pressure on Iran and Venezuela.
