“Basic combined military training (BZVP) for students of higher educational institutions will begin in September 2025 and will include 300 academic hours,” the Ministry of Defense reported.
Among which 90 hours will be theory in educational institutions, and the rest, 210 hours – practice in military units and centers.
“All students – both men and women – must pass the theory. The practical course is mandatory only for men who are fit for military service due to their health. Women will do the practice only at their own request and after passing a medical examination,” – noted the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Sergey Melnyk.
The main courses on which students will be trained will be:
- tactical, intelligence and psychological training
- the basics of military discipline
- pre-medical assistance
- handling weapons
Also, after passing the BZVP, students take a military oath and receive a certificate and a military accounting specialty.

On January 15, 2025, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, signed the draft law approved by the Verkhovna Rada on amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Military Obligation and Military Service” regarding the specifics of taking Ukrainian citizens into military registration No. 12076.
