The new Syrian authorities have said that they are ready to consider the possibility of deploying UN peacekeepers along the border with Israel.

As reported by Ukrinform, Reuters reports this with reference to the words of the leader of the new Syrian administration Ahmed al-Sharaa.

“Syria is ready to deploy UN forces in the buffer zone created by the Organization (on the border – ed.) with Israel,” the article says.

According to al-Sharaa, Israel uses “false pretexts” to justify its military presence in Syria.

“Israel’s advance in the region took place due to the presence of Iranian militants and Hezbollah.” After the liberation of Damascus, this presence no longer exists. This is just an excuse that Israel uses to justify advancing into the Syrian regions, into the buffer zone,” he said.

The day before, US President Joe Biden officially confirmed that an agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas militants on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the return of hostages.
