The President discussed with the UN delegation the strengthening of humanitarian support to Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with the United Nations delegation led by Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher and High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

The head of state thanked the UN for the strong support of Ukrainians and, in particular, the help to those people who were forced to leave their homes due to Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“During your visit, you visited not only the capital, but also the South, Dnipro region, Sumy region, Kharkiv region, in particular Kupyansk. This is very important and I thank you. You saw the people there and you understand what war is and what its consequences are,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The President emphasized that Russia’s war against Ukraine has caused one of the biggest humanitarian crises today, and international organizations should force the aggressor state to establish a just and lasting peace.

The head of state noted the importance of the UN Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for 2025 and the Regional Response Plan of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, which, in particular, provide for a total consolidation of almost 3.3 billion dollars. During the meeting, they also discussed the possibility of further use of Ukrainian experience in providing humanitarian aid to the affected population in other countries of the world. Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the recently launched Ukrainian humanitarian initiative Food from Ukraine to supply essential products to Syria and invited the UN and its member states to join this program.

Tom Fletcher and Filippo Grandi assured that they will continue to support Ukrainians who suffered as a result of Russian aggression.
