Ukraine and Great Britain will sign a historic agreement for 100 years, which will strengthen military and economic cooperation between the countries.
This is reported on the website of the British government.
As noted, Great Britain, as part of the agreement, developed a new scheme after Ukraine asked the countries of the Group of Seven (G7) to help track stolen grain from Ukrainian fields in Russian-occupied territories, which are then relabeled and resold.
“Ukraine, which remains the main supplier of agricultural products, is of crucial importance for global food security. The database will be handed over to Ukraine by the Minister of Environmental Protection in the coming weeks,” the statement said.
It is noted that the UK has developed a database to support Ukraine’s efforts to track and stop the theft of grain from the occupied regions “using the latest scientific advances to identify where grain is grown and collected”.
It is noted that a new grain movement tracking scheme will be launched within the framework of the 100-year partnership agreement between Ukraine and Great Britain. Its signing is expected during the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Kyiv on Thursday.
In addition, the historic agreement will also strengthen military cooperation in the field of maritime security through a new structure to strengthen the security of the Baltic, Black and Azov seas and deter Russian aggression. The document will bring together experts to develop scientific and technical partnerships in areas such as health care, agro-technology, space and drones, as well as to build friendships through educational projects.
The agreement also consolidates the position of Great Britain as a priority partner of Ukraine in the energy sector, the strategy of extraction of critical minerals and the production of “green” steel, the statement said.
Starmer will announce a £40m economic recovery package that will create opportunities for British businesses. Financing will be directed to enterprises that support the “green” economy, as well as to the most vulnerable sections of the population. These funds are in addition to the already allocated 12.8 billion pounds of support from Britain, including 7.8 billion pounds of military aid.
It should be noted that on January 16, Prime Minister of Great Britain Keir Starmer is on an official visit to Kyiv.
He met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, it is planned to sign an agreement on deepening military aid to Ukraine.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozetto also arrived in Ukraine today on an official visit.
