British Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Kyiv on the morning of January 16 to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced that Great Britain and Ukraine will sign a 100-year partnership agreement to deepen security ties and strengthen the partnership for future generations.

The British side notes that Ukraine has a highly qualified army and a successful technological sector, which quickly develops and deploys the most modern combat equipment, and therefore – a partnership with Ukraine in the field of security will make Britain stronger.

The visit comes amid reports in the British press that Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have begun discussing the possibility of sending British and French soldiers to Ukraine as peacekeepers if an agreement is reached to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.

On December 7, French President Emmanuel Macron hosted his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyi and US President-elect Donald Trump in Paris, where they discussed ending the war. According to the WSJ, Trump apparently told his counterpart that he does not plan to involve American soldiers in a potential peacekeeping mission.

The Reuters agency, citing diplomats, later reported that France is trying to assemble a coalition of 5-8 European countries “determined to act.” Macron did not officially make a specific proposal to send a mission to the territory of Ukraine.

At the same time, a number of European countries did not exclude their participation in the mission, in particular Germany, Italy, Sweden, but their officials, commenting on this topic, emphasize that this is possible only in the event of the end of hostilities, calling these discussions somewhat premature.
