The 12th racket of the world from Spain Paula Bados spoke about the Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyukwith whom she will have to play in the 3rd round of the 2025 Australian Open:

“It will be a difficult match. We have played here before, she likes to play in these conditions, she likes big matches. I expect her to show her best game. She is very talented. So I expect a battle on the court.

Her results can be deceiving, because she is able to show an excellent game especially in big matches. She is comfortable playing in such meetings where there is less pressure on her, and this allows her to open up and show her best tennis. She has very good shots and I have always considered her a promising player. She is already in the top 20, but always had the potential to reach the top 10 in my opinion. However, she lacks stability throughout her career. However, in one particular match, she can be a very dangerous opponent.

I always look at the entire tournament grid, but more out of curiosity than for myself. Of course, I know who my next opponents could be. However, it is important for me to focus on each match in turn. For example, now I am completely focused on the next meeting, because I consider Marta to be a dangerous opponent. I’m playing well and I feel confident, but I never want to underestimate any opponent or the importance of a particular match.

When you set yourself too high expectations, it inevitably leads to additional pressure, and not everyone knows how to cope with this. As I already said, only players of the level of the Big Three can cope with this. We often compare ourselves to such tennis players, but it is almost impossible to reach their level. Therefore, the unexpected results do not surprise me.”
