The US Treasury has additionally blacklisted a financial institution from Kyrgyzstan, the Keremet bank, which coordinated its actions with Russian officials and a Russian sanctioned bank to implement a scheme to circumvent sanctions.
In a separate decision, the US re-announced sanctions against almost 100 organizations of the military-industrial complex, which will allow the introduction of restrictions against companies that cooperate with them.
In total, the new US sanctions affected about 250 individuals and legal entities.
Prehistory:
- This is not the first time that the US has exposed Russian sanctions evasion networks. In December 2024, the US Treasury introduced sanctions against persons associated with the TGR Group, an international network of companies and employees that facilitated the circumvention of sanctions in the interests of the Russian elite.
- On January 10, the United States also announced new sanctions on the Russian oil refining industry – Russian oil giants Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, in particular, fell under the restrictions.
